I just got offered (and accepted) a Teaching Assistant position from the University of Iowa. This means that I will work as a TA for 6 semesters (teaching my own classes thereafter) at $15,490 per academic year. Also, my tuition is $6,500 per academic year, though I will be receiving continual tuition scholarships for between $2,000 and $3,000 a year. Given the cost of living expenses is estimated by the University at about $11,200 for someone like me, this means that EVERYTHING will be paid for by the school for 5 years- housing, tuition, utility bills, food, books! All I will do is get a part time job over the summer to make some spending money. This is great!

It also looks like leases don't begin 'til August out there, so I get to stay around for the summer!

neato.

Starting Sunday June 5 through Sunday September 4, Pastor Jon and I will be teaching a Sunday School class at Living Hope Church, from 8:45-10:00 AM. The theme is apologetics, and we will be reading and discussing Josh McDowell's book "A Ready Defense." I would really encourage you to preview the book and the many fascinating topics it covers here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0840744196/qid=1116348309/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-8817236-6802559?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 The book itself is not difficult to read, and I think you will find it enjoyable.

We'll be reading and discussing a chapter each week. There will likely be an assignment to do some outside research in groups, along with a brief summary presentation before the class. I will do the teaching and lead the discussions, and Pastor Jon will work behind the scenes with me, as well as add helpful insights during class itself. This class will be a part of of the Elbethel School of the Bible class rotation, aimed at adults who want to understand what they believe and how to defend it against people who are skeptical of the claims of Christianity. However, teens are most certainly welcome to attend.

At the end of the class, we will try to organize some sort of event to attend outside of class, perhaps going to see a speaker on a topic within apologetics on a Saturday evening.

You are STRONGLY encouraged to sign up for the class at the Info Booth as soon as a signup sheet is made available. That way, we will know how many books to buy.

interesting happenings lately. first off, my second paper is printing as i type. this one's 13 pages, on why i baptizing babies isn't right (or at least it doesn't do what people think it does). i'm about to finish a rough draft of a paper of plato, this one will be 8 pages. a 3 pager on aristotle was turned in on wed. 8 pagers on mythology and knowing if other people have minds or not are due next week thursday and friday. anyway. that stuff doesnt matter.

interesting thing is that there is the girl in my classical mythology class that has been acting as if she likes me the last week or so. i'm not used to girls being attentive towards me. i'm not sure what to make it. i'm not really worried or anything. if at all, its just interesting, and a bit flattering, i guess.

she sits next to me, and always tosses comments about what we're discussing in class, as if i'm her best friend. just last week she made me this cool 45 sided 3D thing made from folding 30 pieces of paper together. appparently she makes them often, and gives them away. i also noticed that the last 2 periods, she has basically waited for me to leave the classroom, then walking with me down the hall, down the escalator 4 floors, outside, and across campus. its hard to tell what she's thinking. although i'm not reallly interested or worried about it. i think its more interesting that a female in general is taking some sort of time for me.

so then today we walked across campus again, as i was on my way to the cafeteria and she was on her way to her car (she commutes). She mentioned that she had lke 25 min. til she technically had to leave campus. there was a bit of an awkward pause as we stood outside the cafeteria. i knda got the idea that she wanted me to invite her to come with me, so i did. she watched me eat, and she told me about herself. then she left and i road my bike home.

seriously, i mean, she's cute, but not a knockout, and we don't realy have much in common at all. but as i said, i'm not really thinkning about it too much (i wrote it down as it was all that was noteworthy today) i don't like her, at least not in the way she might be in me. whatever. i will only see her once more, then likely never again, after the semester is over.

anyway.
